Heinrich Himmler was a German Nazi politician, police administrator, and military leader. He served as the fourth and longest-serving Reichsfuhrer of the SS from 1929 to 1945, building it from a 290-man bodyguard unit into one of the most powerful institutions in Nazi Germany. He was a leading member of the Nazi Party and one of the main architects of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews during World War II.
