Erich Ludendorff

April 9, 1865 – December 20, 1937

Erich Ludendorff (1865-1937) was a German general and politician who became prominent in World War I for his role in the German victories at Liege and Tannenberg in 1914. Appointed First Quartermaster General of the Great General Staff in 1916, he directed Germany's strategy and war effort until the country's defeat in 1918. During the Weimar Republic he took part in the failed Kapp Putsch of 1920 and in Adolf Hitler's 1923 Beer Hall Putsch.
