Chinese Communist Revolution
Social and political revolution in mainland China from 1927 to 1949 led by the Chinese Communist Party, culminating in the proclamation of the People's Republic of China. After Chiang Kai-shek broke the First United Front in 1927, Mao Zedong built a peasant-based movement, rose to undisputed CCP leadership during the Long March, and defeated the Nationalists in the civil war's final phase. Communist victory made China the largest socialist state by population and reshaped the global Cold War balance.
