The main Union army in the Eastern Theater, formed by George McClellan after First Bull Run. Under McClellan, Burnside, Hooker and Meade it fought Lee's army in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and with Grant directing it forced Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
